For more than 40 years, Sermatech engineered protective coatings have been used by the aerospace industry. From spitfires to F4 Phantoms to JSF Joint Strike Fighters to the A380 commercial carriers of today, Sermatech coatings can be found on a wide range of fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft engines.

Cold Section
In the compressor section, SermeTel® protective coatings can enhance engine performance and reduce fuel consumption by:
- Maintaining or restoring a smooth aerodynamic surface finish
- Providing a nonstick surface on gas path components such as compressor section blades.
Because a SermeTel coating has the ability to level itself during application, even the surface finish on an in-service component that may have experienced pitting can be greatly improved.
SermeTel coatings are effective in a wide variety of applications. SermeTel 5380DP™ is ideal for use on components where the surface finish is critical, such as compressor airfoils and stator vanes. The coating also is well suited for any component with tight tolerances or where the potential for media entrapment is possible due to part configuration.
Our SermaFlow™ coating application process provides ultra-smooth, fouling resistant surfaces in the gas turbine compressor section that enhance and maintain the optimum airflow efficiencies demanded by the latest generation of engine designs.
The SermaFlow coating application process is designed to produce surface profiles of <15 micro-inches RA 0.030" cutoff. As a result, these coatings also are an extremely effective alternative to superpolishing with the added benefit that their use results in no loss of base material during processing. And surfaces coated with SermaFlow resist environmental effects that would compromise a superpolished surface.
In addition, Sermatech thermal spray coatings provide effective wear resistance for fan blade midspans and clearance control for compressor seals.

Hot Section
For hot section components, Sermatech diffusion and thermal spray coating processes extend component life and reduce maintenance costs by limiting degradation at elevated temperatures. These coatings protect expensive components by forming a barrier against corrosion and oxidation. The more effectively the coatings form and reform this barrier, the longer the life of the coating and component.
SermAlcote™, our new slurry aluminizing process for producing protective coatings, offers significant improvements in cost, quality and turntime over competitive aluminizing processes while meeting existing commercial specifications.
The new process offers an alternative to industrial pack and vapor-phase aluminizing processes used for producing protective coatings on hot section components. SermAlcote processes have been developed to meet common commercial aluminide process specifications for aluminide coatings, platinum-modified aluminide coatings, and overaluminized MCrAlY coatings.
SermaLoy® J is a unique slurry applied aluminide diffusion coating specifically designed for protection of hot section components. It is applied to the component surface, then diffused. This results in a coating that adheres tightly to the part surface and is very resistant to both low and high temperature hot corrosion and oxidation.
Sermatech also has
a complete line of
pack aluminide coatings,
including platinum
aluminides, in addition
to a full range of
thermal spray technologies
that are effective
in the hot section
of flight turbines.
We offer high velocity
oxy fuel (HVOF)- and

to the specific application.
And as with all thermal
spray technologies,
we use multi-axis robots
and automated systems
to assure reproducibility
and precise control
of coating thickness.
